Take Ownership of Your Writing by ARE

I struggle to remember a time when I wasn’t hard at work writing something or other. This was mostly for myself and an easy way to express my feelings. There’s a certain joy that comes from writing something, fiction or non-fiction that is for your eyes only. It’s an entirely different story when you know you’ll be subject to the comments and criticism of others. Focusing too much on negativity often prevents writers from ever sharing their works.

I suggest a totally different opinion to the writers and authors that I work with. Focus on the people you will help and inspire through your words. These readers are important and need to hear your voice. Taking ownership of your writing means being at the helm of the content, the style, and the completion of a piece. These steps are far more important than fearing the voices of others.

Creativity should not be sealed inside of a tiny box! It’s best when sunlight and air get a chance to intervene. Your style and creativity are unique to you, just as the tone and direction of the work are as well. Don’t be afraid to start small and even using anonymous or a pen name. These are simply tools that help you strengthen your craft and bring it to the notice of welcoming readers.
